Scales

Scales are a very important part of learning any instrument.  Why do we have to learn scales? you may ask.  Western diatonic music is based on major and minor scales (and some modes, especially in folk music) and melodies contain scale and arpeggio patterns.  In order to be proficient on an instrument, it is important to be fluent in all the scale and arpeggio patterns as well as dominant and diminished patterns and double stops particularly thirds, sixths and octaves.  By learning scales, you improve your technique and this will help you you to enjoy your playing even more because it makes it easier to play.
